Not to Miss in Tahiti

For local color, nothing beats shopping at Le Marché de Papeete. It is a two-story marketplace just behind the waterfront. Le Marché is not just for tourist memorabilia. It’s a large market where locals shop for fresh produce, meat, fish, and flowers.

On the lower level, you will also see Tahitian-made crafts, vanilla, Monoi oil and soaps. Upstairs, locals meet with friends over coffee at patisseries. The second level also features shops with higher ticket items like Marquesan wood carvings, Tifaifai wall hangings, and black pearl jewelry.

ahitian Dish

Don't miss Tahiti's most famous dish: Poisson Cru. This national dish features raw tuna marinated in lime juice then mixed with coconut milk and diced vegetables. The preparation of Poisson Cru is similar to ceviche, but the flavors are different.

Tahitian Drink

The traditional beer of Tahiti is Hinano lager. Named after a white tropical flower indigenous to the South Pacific, Hinano is a golden lager with a crisp, slightly bitter taste. You will find it served on tap throughout Tahiti.

When to Visit Tahiti

Tahiti enjoys a tropical climate with temperatures that are relatively constant year-round. However, you can distinguish between dry and rainy seasons. Tahiti’s winter is the dry season lasting from March to October, with temperatures between 70° to 80°F. The summer months of November to February are a little warmer and more humid, with tropical showers and temperatures between 78° to 95°F.

Whether exploring by land or sea, a trip to Tahiti will be an incredible experience that you will cherish for a lifetime.
