Who Takes a World Cruise?
Published Monday, May 30th 2022When you embark on a world cruise, you will discover that a true sense of community develops onboard. After all, you will be together with fellow passengers for 90 days or more, sharing new experiences on an incredible journey.
Do you wonder what your fellow passengers will be like? Is there a typical world cruise passenger?
The answer is yes, and no. World cruise passengers have some things in common: They have the time, the resources, and the curiosity to see the world.
Previously, this meant that world cruises were exclusively for older, retired, well-to-do travelers. But that is changing.
Today, you’ll still find plenty of relaxed retirees on any world cruise. However, there is an increase in younger passengers. They are professionals taking a sabbatical from work, taking a break to travel before starting a new job, or working remotely using the ship’s internet. You will even come across some family groups with children who certainly get an excellent education on a world cruise.
World cruisers are typically repeat customers. However, there is a recent uptick in more first-time world cruisers. They are well-traveled and looking for a new experience; others are looking at the world for destinations they want to explore in greater depth later.
A Sense of Adventure
You can assume that everyone onboard has a great sense of adventure. World cruises sail to multiple continents, dozens of countries, and twice as many ports. Some passengers take world cruises specifically because they sail to exotic ports that might be difficult to see on their own, such as remote islands in the South Pacific or the Middle East.
Social and Relaxed
In general, world cruise passengers are social and enjoy meeting new people as they explore new destinations. Some passengers form lasting friendships; some even plan to reunite on future cruises.
If you think you may get bored with the same group of people for three months, rest assured that segments of many world cruises are also available as stand-alone itineraries. So, at several major ports, some people will leave the ship, and some will come on board, refreshing the mix of passengers.
Because any world cruise involves days at sea, passengers are also typically comfortable simply relaxing onboard the ship. They enjoy having the time to socialize, get a spa treatment, attend lectures, play deck games, and get acquainted with other ship features.
