Deciding to travel is the first step to discovering the world's incredible wonders. However, with so many options, where do you begin? Don’t worry. We have some tips for choosing your next travel destination.

hat Is the Purpose of Your Vacation?

Needing a break from work is different than having a desire to explore a different culture. How do you want to remember this vacation? Is there a lasting impact that you need?

If your answer is to have downtime, you might relax on a deserted beach and leave your worries behind. On the other hand, are you looking for adventure and wild experiences? It might be time to finally make that epic hike, learn how to scuba dive, or go on a safari.

Maybe you are traveling with children and want the vacation to be educational in some way. Consider age-appropriate museums and cultural experiences. Perhaps a milestone celebration is a reason for travel. Or maybe the focus is a romantic getaway.

Ask yourself why you want to travel?

Consider the Season

Not all countries are year-round destinations. Some areas of the world have monsoon or long rainy seasons. Typically, even countries that are fine to visit any time of year typically experience distinct seasons, some of which you might not personally find suitable.

When planning your vacation, keep the weather and the seasons in mind.

What Are Your Interests and Travel Styles?

Discovering your interests is the very first step in planning our clients' vacations. It's not asking where do you want to travel? Instead, we learn about your hobbies and travel styles. For example, what are you passionate about? Hiking, yoga, golf, genealogy, historical sites, food & wine, etc. Brainstorming about your interests is the best way to focus on destination options. After all, you should enjoy what you love while on your vacation!

How Much Time Do You Have?

The length of a vacation is another key point when choosing your travel destination. Are you considering a long weekend getaway, a 2-week trip, extended travel, or something in the middle? Depending on where you live and the amount of time you have to travel, certain destinations will make more sense than others.

Some destinations can require more extended time off, especially when it takes a long-haul flight to get there. For example, it makes no sense to travel to Australia or New Zealand if you have only five days off.

What Is Your Vacation Budget?

Lastly, budget is a huge consideration. Some destinations are more expensive than others. For example, in Europe, a trip to Croatia can be less costly than a trip to the Amalfi Coast. Or a trip to the Caribbean from the East Coast can cost more than to Hawaii. Airfare alone can be a significant component of your budget.

One of the most important things about a fantastic vacation is being matched to the right destination and incorporating enriching experiences around your interests and travel style. Keep these things in mind when selecting your next destination, or contact me!
